HSBC raised RMB200 million in aid of China earthquake

More than RMB1.57 million was raised among HSBC China staff members to help relief and recovery efforts in earthquake-hit areas. The donation has been given to the Red Cross together with RMB1 million in matching funds from HSBC China to help earthquake victims.

In addition, on behalf of HSBC, HSBC Bank Foundation donated RMB18 million to the Red Cross shortly after the earthquake hit Wenchuan.

In Hong Kong, by 31 May the HSBC China Earthquake Relief Account had received more than HKD200 million in donations from staff members, customers and the public for the rebuilding of schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, houses and relevant water supplies facilities.

By 31 May, approximately RMB200 million had been raised among HSBC staff and the public to support earthquake relief and recovery efforts.
