Security tips for SMS Services

  1. Each customer should nominate only one mobile phone number for the SMS service. HSBC will send the SMS messages to those pre-registered numbers.
  2. Customers should not reply to SMS messages.
  3. Customers should never respond to a request purportedly from HSBC via the SMS Alert Service to provide account or security details by SMS message or to carry out any transactions.
  4. If customer receives SMS message ask him/her to call a number other than our service hotline (800-820-8878), he/she should not respond. If the promotional include gifts/souvenirs, it is recommended that customer call the service hotline to clarify.
  5. Customers are recommend to choose nicknames for accounts to protect their privacy.
  6. Customer should not tell any third-parties the SIM Card PIN Code or nicknames and should not write them down in a way that someone else may understand.
  7. Customer should check the telephone number of the sender of SMS message to ensure that they are genuine and have been sent by us.
